I came across a nice article at linux.com that i wanted to share. It was very useful to me and i'm sure it will be to someone else as well. I've read other articles on the topic but i found that this one does the best job in explaining why certain options were used and their benefits. If you have an apache server out there and you're skeptical about its security, then maybe reading this article might put some things into perspective for you and set you on the right path.
